Q&A
Definitions of Match, Challenge, and Sponsorship
- Match - is when you "match" donations up to a certain amount. For every dollar given, you also give a dollar.
- Challenge - is when you "challenge" other donors to achieve a goal. If the goal is achieved, your donation will be unlocked as a prize.
- Sponsorship - is a gift that supports the expenses that go into executing One Day for UWL. All sponsorships will be paid to the UWL Fund.
Examples of Matches, Challenges, and Sponsorships
- Match
- Example 1: John Doe will match up to $6,000 for the biology department.
- Example 2: In memorial of Joe Smith, Jane Doe will match up to $10,000 for the Screaming Eagles Marching Band.
- Example 3: An anonymous donor will match up to $8,000 for the OT program.
- Challenge
- Example 1: John Doe will donate $6,000 to the biology department once 10 gifts are made to the department.
- Example 2: In memorial of Joe Smith, Jane Doe will donate $10,000 for the Screaming Eagles Marching Band once 5 current students donate to the Screaming Eagles Marching Band.
- Example 3: An anonymous donor will donate $8,000 to the OT program once 2 UWL employees give to the OT program.
- Sponsorship
- Example 1: John Doe has made a gift of $1000 to sponsor One Day for UWL.
- Example 2: In memorial of Joe Smith, Jane Doe has made a gift of $10,000 to support One Day for UWL.
- Example 3: An anonymous donor has given $8,000 to support One Day for UWL.

Challenge Criteria
There are numerous ways to set-up challenge criteria. Below shares all the different type of criteria you can utilize. If you are unsure, you can always state "determine for me" and we will pick the criteria on your behalf.
- By # of Donors
- (i.e. John Doe challenges 10 donors to give to the Oral History Program. This will unlock $10,000 for the program.)
- By # of Gifts
- (i.e. Once 10 gifts are given to the Oral History Program, John Doe will give $10,000 to the program.)
- Extra Element: Time
- (i.e. If 10 gifts are made to International Education and Engagement between 10am-11am, John Doe will give $1,000 to the program)
- Extra Element: Graduation Year
- (i.e. If 10 donors of the class of 2017 give to International Education and Engagement, John Doe will give $1,000 to the program)
- Extra Element: UWL Affiliation
- (i.e. If 5 retirees of UWL give to the Murphy Library, John Doe will give $2,000 to the library.)
Are there any requirements?
To be a match or challenge donor, there is a gift minimum of $500. If you would like to make a gift of less than $500, please consider giving on One Day (October 21st-22nd).
Challenges and matches must be designated to one specific fund and that fund must be part of the listed One Day funds.
To verify your gift gets listed on the website, please make your pledge prior to October 6th.
How do I create more than one Match, Challenge, or Sponsorship?
If you would like to create more than one match, challenge, or sponsorship, you will have to complete the form for each one separately.
