One Day: Campus Leadership Guide

The One Day for UWL website hosts all the funds, provides information about events, and offers access to special matches and challenges. Each fund has a content page that shares about the fund, its importance on campus, and why giving to the fund will make a difference.

Step 1 to success is to have the content pages that fall under your leadership reviewed. You can either review them yourself or assign them to individuals in your unit/department/program.

How to:

1. Navigate to the One Day for UWL 2024 website
2. Scroll down to "Participating Groups" and select the tile that lists your area of leadership
3. Once in the tile, you will see all the funds listed under your area of leadership. Go ahead and select the first one.
4. Review the content page.
5. If you would like edits to the content page for One Day 2025, fill out and submit  this form.
6. Repeat this process for all the funds listed under your area of leadership. 

Deadlines:

• Touchpoint #1: June 2nd (development officer checks in on status)
• Touchpoint #2: July 1st (development officer checks in on status)
• Final Deadline: July 15th 

A very exciting part of One Day for UWL is the option to take advantage of challenges and matches. The UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation works on your behalf to identify donors and solicit them to become One Day key gift donors.

Step 2 to success is strategize with your development officer about key gifts. You will NOT be soliciting.  You will also complete a pledge form if you plan to give and participate in the Deans' Council Pool or the Cabinet Pool.

How to:

1. Starting in May, make time in your monthly meeting with your foundation liaison to discuss One Day key gifts
2. Your liaison should share what One Day key gifts they are working on for you and also share which gifts they have secured. You are NOT soliciting for gifts.
3. Ideate with your liaison if there are any donors that maybe should be getting asked by your foundation liaison to make a key gift. 
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until October.

Your Giving:

Giving back is something that is always optional; however, as campus leadership we hope you would consider this an opportunity to lead by example and show others what it means to live and give maroon. Like last year, we have two pools (Deans' Council Pool and Cabinet Pool) that are being challenged to have 100% of members pledge to give on One Day for UWL with an aim for each pool to collectively give at least $3000. To participate in one of these pools and help us reach the goal of 100% participation, please click HERE and submit a pledge. 

Deadline:

• Final submission date for key gifts: October 6th
• Final submission date for Deans' Council Pool: October 6th
• Final submission date for Cabinet Pool: October 6th 

One of the most influential things you can do to support One Day is to communicate with your team, students, and personal network. The One Day 2025 website will go live on 09/21/2025. This date marks one month till One Day and is the perfect date to start your efforts on sharing about One Day. The UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation is responsible for soliciting individuals on your behalf (see Appendix: Expectations of the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation for more information). 

Step 3 to success is amplifying the message about One Day for UWL to your team, students, and personal network. 

How to:

1. Talk about One Day for UWL -  word of mouth is a powerful tool
2. Repost social media posts about One Day (tip: include a caption about why this event is important to you)
3. Add a One Day logo to your email address (see Appendix: Download Portfolio)
4. Make videos with your team to share on social media or use the pre-made posts (tip: tag @uwlax and use #OneDay #livemaroon #givemaroon)
5. Email your team and students (see Appendix: Email Template)
6. Go the professional route and make a LinkedIn post about why you give back
7. Do NOT solicit individuals; simply share that One Day is coming up

Deadline:

• N/A; communicate September 21 to October 22

One Day for UWL is a day of celebration and a time for us all to come together to recognize the significance of philanthropy on our campus!

Step 4 to success is getting involved in One Day for UWL. As campus leadership, you can lead by example and share with others how important involvement is. 

How to:

1. Email your team and students to share "It is One Day!" (See Appendix: Email Templates)
2. Attend the events going on (and bring a friend or two with to celebrate)
3. Have someone from your team drive the Class Cab (simply driving students to class, no soliciting)
4. Make a LinkedIn post about One Day and share why it impacts your job and education as a whole (remember to link the One Day website)
5. Make a gift to where you are passionate about

Deadline:

• One Day is October 21st - 22nd (9 a.m. to 9 a.m.)

After One Day, the UWL Alumni & Friends foundation will be sending out numerous touchpoints to donors to thank them for their generosity on your behalf (see Appendix: Expectations of UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation). The official gift list for One Day and results will be shared 11/21/2025. DO NOT remove data from the gift list. We also will be working on gathering feedback for the future of One Day.

Your final step is to help us share a big "thank you to donors" and provide your insights on how One Day for UWL can continue to grow and be impactful.

How to:

1. It takes us all to execute One Day for UWL. Share your gratitude with your team and students by sending an email (see Appendix: Email Templates)
2. Write thank you cards to those who gave $1K+ to your funds (cards and list will be provided to you by the foundation on 11/21/2025)
3. Call those who gave $5K+ to your funds (a list will be provided to you by the foundation on 11/21/2025)
4. Fill out  this survey to give your feedback about One Day for UWL 2025

***You are welcome to share additional thanks with donors to your funds; however, it is encouraged you work with your liaison through this process as to communicate with donors based on their preferences (i.e. some donors have requested no emails and/or mail)
