Personnel

The Wind Ensemble is looking for talented and motivated players! A select ensemble of 40-50 of the finest woodwind, brass and percussion students on the UWL campus, the Wind Symphony performs repertoire of the highest caliber, providing a challenging and rewarding atmosphere for the most dedicated musicians. This group is directed by Dr. Phil Golson. The Wind Ensemble rehearses and performs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. throughout the academic year. Membership and placement auditions for this ensemble are held at the beginning of the first semester (September).

The Bower Scholarship is available to qualified students who participate in UW-La Crosse Wind Ensembles!

Collaboration

The Wind Ensemble has featured many of our own instrumental faculty in guest appearances as well as collaborative events with the UW-L Concert Choir. It is our goal to promote the artistry of UW-L faculty and students alike through public performance. The Wind Ensemble is also a recent addition to the highly successful Pops Concert series, which combines the musical forces of the UW-L Symphony Orchestra, UW-L Choir and Vocal Jazz, and the Wind Ensemble.

In addition, the Wind Ensemble has performed performances for area high schools and promotes cooperation in the arts with instrumental ensembles in the community. Past Wind Ensemble performances include the Wisconsin Music Educators Association Convention in Madison, Wisconsin and Michigan Technical University in the Upper Peninsula region. In addition, Wind Ensemble members have volunteered in solo and ensemble, benefit concerts, guest lectures, recitals, and other endeavors.
