Orchestral Music at UW-L
The UW-La Crosse Symphony Orchestra is a full orchestra with between 70 to 80 student members. In the last fifteen years the orchestra has grown from 17 members to its present size and the orchestra's concert schedule has grown from two concerts per year to four or five each semester.
The orchestra tours each year in the tri-state region and every four or five years takes a major tour. The Symphony Orchestra's repertoire is drawn from a wide variety of musical periods and styles. It includes everything from Bach and Beethoven to Sondheim and the Beetles. Soloists include talented UW-L students, members of the UW-L music faculty, performers from the area and nationally known professional musicians.
The Chamber Orchestra is a thirty-two piece ensemble drawn from the best performers in the Symphony Orchestra. Auditions are held the first week of classes in the fall. The Chamber Orchestra concentrates on music written for the small orchestra including literature from all periods. The Chamber Orchestra represents the university at a number of community functions and performs one or two concerts per semester.
