Option a:
You will write three melodies for your instrument or voice that are 16-20 measures long. The melodies will use three different key signatures, one will be in a major key, one will be in a minor key (include some appropriate use of chromatic alterations of the sixth and seventh scale degrees) and one will be in a church mode. Use both simple and compound meters and a variety of tempos.

Option a:
Completely analyze the key and harmonies (using roman numerals below and chord symbols above) of the linked chord progression (235 companal3a). Compose a melody using this progression and write it neatly in the upper staff. After composing the melody, you will circle and identify all nonharmonic tones in the melody. Put in dynamics, articulations and a title after composing your melody.
Option b:
You will harmonize the linked melody (235 companal3b)with diatonic chords. Write the chords in the bottom staff in simple position and analyze the harmonies with roman numerals below the staff and chord symbols above the staff. Once the melody is harmonized, circle and identify all nonharmonic tones in the melody. When you are harmonizing the melody remember to pay attention to the following:
