The committee considers several criteria when reviewing applications for admission.

  • GPA (cumulative and prerequisite)
    • Academic success is prioritized
      • Minimum cumulative GPA for admission is 3.0
      • High GPAs are considered reflective of strong applications
      • Particular emphasis is placed on prerequisite & science coursework
        • Academic performance in these area is examined in addition to cumulative GPA
  • Personal Characteristics
    • An evaluation of these characteristics will be made using application items including:
      • Narrative responses
      • References
      • Interview
    • When preparing applications items applicants should emphasize:
      • Knowledge and Creativity
        • Demonstrate a broad understanding of occupational therapy and curiosity about the field
        • Valuable skills: intelligence and creativity
      • Communication Skills
        • Writing is clear, organized, and logical
        • Valuable skills: precision and interesting style
      • Teamwork
        • Demonstrate an ability to work well in group settings with a friendly and supportive approach
        • Valuable skill: ability to provide constructive feedback to team members
      • Resilience
        • Demonstrate strong work ethic and ability to perform in stressful conditions
        • Valuable skills: overcome challenges and accept feedback 
      • Planning and Organization
        • Organize work and time effectively, meet deadlines
        • Valuable skills: sets realistic goals and make a plan to accomplish goals
      • Ethics and Integrity
        • Demonstrate the ability to be trustworthy and maintain high ethical standards
        • Valuable skills: sincerity & honesty
  • Related Experiences
    • i.e., volunteer or work experience with diverse populations, leadership roles, etc.
  • Achievements
    • i.e., awards, collegiate extracurricular activities, honors, scholarships, study abroad, etc.
