Graduate/ Undergraduate Research

I believe that the pinnacle of experiential learning is undertaking independent research. I first developed my desire to study biology by doing undergraduate research and I believe strongly that this is an essential way to capture students’ interest and teach them to think scientifically. During the course of my research at the University of Alabama and Duke University, I have mentored several undergraduate researchers. These projects have resulted in two students presenting posters at scientific meetings. In addition, one undergraduate was first author on a publication reporting her work and we are preparing a paper for submission based on the work of my most recent undergraduate researcher. In the future, I intend to continue my teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students in pursuit of a wide range of independent research topics.
