What is National History Day?

National History Day (NHD) is a program which engages middle school and high school students in historical research. As part of the history department at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, National History Day remains an important initiative in supporting history education for teachers and students in the school districts of western Wisconsin.

Special Western Wisconsin Regional Awards for 2013

This year there are ten different regional awards, available to middle and high school students, in different topics and fields of history. Here is a list of the award topics and monetary amounts.

National History Day includes eight local competitons leading up to the regional event March 13, 2013.

Past National History Days: 2012

NHD2011

Over 300 middle school and high school students from ten school districts will present the results of their historical research projects relating to the theme of "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History" at the annual regional program on March 21st. The event begins at 8:00a.m. in Valhalla of Cartwright Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Research projects are presented in the form of historical papers, exhibits, media documentaries, websites, and performances.

Judges

Interested UW-L history minors and majors as well as members of Phi Alpha Theta and faculty are strongly encouraged to participate as judges at this regional event as well as earlier local school events in late February and early March. Note that new judges are required to participate in a preparation session -- details TBA. RSVP to NHD regional coordinator Gregory Wegner in the history department at gwegner@uwlax.edu
