Faculty Promotion at UWL

A page within Academic Affairs

The information on this site provides a short description of the expected contributions from the candidate, the department, and the Dean for promotion reviews for ranked faculty.

School of Education (SOE) affiliated faculty members' home departments should provide materials to the Dean of the SOE at the time they submit materials to the dean of their respective college (CSH or CASSH).

The candidate submits one Digital Measures electronic report to their department, the INDIV: Personnel Report (Faculty/IAS Promotions/Retention/ Tenure) for all years since hire for Associate Professor candidates and for all years since previous promotion for Professor candidates. This report can be generated in Word format, edited as appropriate, then must be saved and submitted to the Department Chair in PD format (file name format: LastName.FirstName.IndivRpt.ASSOC.Year.Mo.Dy.pdf or LastName.FirstName.IndivRpt.PROF.Year.Mo.Dy.pdf):

The department submits the candidates INDIV: Personnel Report to the Dean along with one Digital Measures report generated by the Chair entitled "DEPT: Personnel Supporting Materials" that contains hyperlinks to the following materials that the Department Chair must upload in DM at "FOR CHAIRS: Retention/Promotion Materials" (file name format: LastName.FirstName.DeptRpt.ASSOC.Year.Mo.Dy.pdf or LastName.FirstName.DeptRpt.PROF.Year.Mo.Dy.pdf):

  1. Department promotion committee letter of recommendation that includes. Examples of these letters are provided on the Provost Promotion Resources The result of the vote should be noted in the letter including the number of Yes votes, No votes, and any abstentions.
  2. Teaching Assignment Information (TAI) form since date of hire for Associate Professor candidates and since prior promotion for Professor candidates
  3. Merit evaluation results (for at least the last three years).
  4. Transmittal page
  5. Descriptions of the merit procedures and the departmental definition of scholarship.

The Dean's Office then uploads the INDIV: Personnel Report and DEPT: Personnel Supporting Materials Report to the Joint Promotion Committee Canvas site. In addition, the Dean writes a recommendation regarding the candidate’s application and uploads that as the third and final file required for review by the JPC.
