Meeting Announcement
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the organizing committee of the 69th annual meeting of the North Central Branch of the American Society for Microbiology, I am happy to announce that the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, La Crosse, Wisconsin will be the host site for the October 9-10, 2009 meeting. Among the speakers for the meeting is Dr. Hua Helen Wang, who will present “The Impact of Foodborne Commensal Bacteria on Antibiotic Resistance Transmission”. We are currently planning dual sessions on Saturday morning: a medical/veterinary microbiology and an applied and general microbiology track.
A two-hour Mississippi River cruise on the luxurious new Island Girl cruise liner with accompanying banquet will be held on Friday evening. We encourage early registration because there are only 150 seats available and we anticipate the banquet selling out.
As in previous meetings, there will be an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to participate for cash awards in an oral presentation competition. There will be awards for the top three presentations in each category. All students entering the oral presentation competition will receive a free ticket for the banquet and cruise on the Island Girl on Friday evening. We encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to participate in the competition. The registration and abstract forms will be posted in later May or early June soon so please keep check back then.
Some important dates to remember:
Sept. 8, 2009 Hotel reservations for NCB-ASM meeting rate at most hotels
Oct. 5, 2009 Meeting pre-registration deadline
Oct. 2, 2009 Receipt of abstract deadline
The La Crosse area offers a variety of activities for attendees and their guests. The meeting will be at the peak of fall colors and with La Crosse’s towering bluffs this should be a spectacular weekend.
We hope you can attend this year’s meeting.
Sincerely,
