Transfer Students Required steps for admitted transfer students (College of Liberal Studies)

How do I declare psychology as a major?  Students must meet two "milestones" to officially proceed with psychology as major and be eligible to register for required psychology courses.  After you have completed the tutorial and met with a Psychology Advising Team member (see Milestone 1), you will receive an endorsed Psychology change of major form. You will then take the Psychology form to the College of Liberal Studies Office (260 Morris Hall) and turn it in along with the college's "Change of Major" form [often referred to as "the green sheet"]. Officially declaring the psychology major requires both forms.

Milestone 1 = Complete online "new major" tutorial and a face-to-face meeting with a member of the Psychology Advising Team in the Psychology Advising Center - see above. (This milestone must be met prior to enrolling in the required course, PSY 210 – Developmental Psychology.)

Milestone 2 = Earn a "C" or better in PSY 100 & MTH 145; complete ENG 110 and CST 110; have a combined GPA of at least 2.25 for these four courses; and, complete a minimum of 30 credits.  (This milestone must be met before enrolling in PSY 331 –Experimental/Research Methods.  The Research Methods course is a prerequisite for several other psychology courses.)

What is Psych Faire?  Over 600 undergraduates major in psychology and the department wants to insure that all majors have access to quality advising.  During the time of registration for classes, the department hosts a "Psych Faire" - a form of mass advising where a student can be assured to meet face-to-face with an advisor.  Students may, or may not, meet with their assigned advisor due to class schedules.  Psych Faire is an efficient and effective way for students to meet with an advisor without having to schedule an individual meeting.

Advisors?

Who is my advisor?  Access WINGS to find your advisor.  Generally speaking, after you have cleared Milestone #2, you will be assigned permanently to a full-time psychology faculty member.

Why should I care?  You and your advisor are the primary individuals who will be able to access your academic progress on WINGS. It is best if you see him/her regularly; however, you may see ANY faculty member for advice.  Indeed, as your career plans become clearer you may wish to chose someone whose interests are closer to yours.

What kinds of questions should I ask of my advisor?  Your psychology advisor will be best for answering questions about course sequencing, course content, careers and graduate school.

The College Office? In addition to faculty advisors, the College of Liberal Studies provides academic advisor services.  Tim Walls is housed in Morris Hall, his number is 785-6634 as is assigned to psychology majors.  All students near graduation should see Tim for a degree audit.
