Conflict Management

Remember:

  •  People with disabilities are individuals with families, jobs, hobbies, like and dislikes, and problems and joys.

  •  A disability is an integral part of who a person is, it alone does not define them.  Treat a person as you would anyone...as an individual.

Conflicts

  •  Sometime conflict arises between people with disabilities and the places they visit for fun, work health care, or education.

  •  These conflicts are usually the result of a misunderstanding or lack of information.

  •  These situations call of flexibility, patience, creativity, and open communication.

  •  Be willing to listen to the other person's perspective and to learn from him/her.

  •  If a situation arises where you cannot work out the difference, consider using a skilled mediator to help.
