La Crosse Institute for Movement Science

Strzelczyk Clinical Biomechanics Laboratory
Room 3002, Health Science Center, La Crosse, WI 54601

The Strzelczyk Clinical Biomechanics Laboratory was developed in 1981 with the start up funds provided by the late Bob Strzelczyk. The laboratory is housed in the Health Science Center and is part of the Physical Therapy Program in the Department of Health Professions. The director of the laboratory is Thomas Kernozek, Ph.D. kernozek.thom@uwlax.edu

In the Fall of 2005, the La Crosse Institute of Movement Science was established in the College of Science and Allied Health. This Institute was formed to bring faculty and clinicians together from campus and clinical partners toward a common goal of movement related research and clinical practice.

Mission:

  • To assist the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in accomplishing their objectives as a graduate program within the University system.
  • To stimulate the student's ability to critically analyze clinical research questions which examine and provide information to the knowledge base of the profession.
  • To promote scientific inquiry, provide service and collaboration with other faculty, clinicians and organizations within as well as outside the College and University.
  • To provide multidisciplinary undergraduate research opportunities for university students.

University of Wisconsin - La Crosse is part of the Medical Consortium with Gundersen Lutheran, Franciscan Skemp Heathcare (part of the Mayo Healthcare system), Western Wisconsin Technical College, and Viterbo College in La Crosse, WI. All of these partners have contributed to the new Health Science Center. The lab space is currently approximately 1,800 sq. ft.

Research / Clinical Interests:

Walking and running gait analysis, Sports movements such as landing and cutting, Seating assessment, Lower extremity biomechanics, Orthosis and footwear design, Therapeutic exercise, Rehabilitation outcome studies of the shoulder and knee, and Ergonomics.
