La Crosse Institute for Movement Science Strzelczyk Clinical Biomechanics Laboratory The Strzelczyk Clinical Biomechanics Laboratory was developed in 1981 with the start up funds provided by the late Bob Strzelczyk. The laboratory is housed in the Health Science Center and is part of the Physical Therapy Program in the Department of Health Professions. The director of the laboratory is Thomas Kernozek, Ph.D. kernozek.thom@uwlax.edu In the Fall of 2005, the La Crosse Institute of Movement Science was established in the College of Science and Allied Health. This Institute was formed to bring faculty and clinicians together from campus and clinical partners toward a common goal of movement related research and clinical practice. Mission:
University of Wisconsin - La Crosse is part of the Medical Consortium with Gundersen Lutheran, Franciscan Skemp Heathcare (part of the Mayo Healthcare system), Western Wisconsin Technical College, and Viterbo College in La Crosse, WI. All of these partners have contributed to the new Health Science Center. The lab space is currently approximately 1,800 sq. ft. Research / Clinical Interests: Walking and running gait analysis, Sports movements such as landing and cutting, Seating assessment, Lower extremity biomechanics, Orthosis and footwear design, Therapeutic exercise, Rehabilitation outcome studies of the shoulder and knee, and Ergonomics.
