program description
SSP is a one-semester, “not-for-credit” program.
Classes meet in the informal comfort of the Women’s Resource Center on the UW-La Crosse campus (telephone and beverages are available) one evening each week for three hours.

A second evening of math and writing skill-building is held at the Hamilton Family Learning Center.

classroom activities
Students will have the opportunity to develop critical reading, writing, and thinking skills and to discuss a wide range of topics.  Students are also introduced to college studies through a math/writing skills-building course.

In addition to helping students become successful in the classroom, we offer assistance with: financial aid, admissions, special services. Weekly resource counseling provides students with helpful experiences in such areas as stress management, individual learning styles, time management, campus resources and much, much more.

Students in the SSP create an exciting environment for each other.
They all have something to learn and they all have something to teach; they talk, they share, and they support each other. The students are the lifeblood of the program.

“Without this program I wouldn’t have had the confidence to come back to school. Try it! It’s a wonderful experience.”

“The fear I had about school has been replaced with excitement and anticipation.”
