Many of our courses include options to get our students engaged with WGSS issues.  We also expect our students to care about the world around them, including the campus community.  Look here for information about all kinds of happenings.  Please check with sponsoring organizations to ensure that times and dates have not changed since this website was updated (3/6/2008).

Pride Center events:  click here.    New Pride Center Events:  Queer Cinema: 

  • April 10 7pm in Port O’ Call, "My Girlfriend Did It." A film and discussion about lesbian and bisexual women in abusive same-sex relationships.  Free Popcorn!  This event is sponsored by the Violence Prevention Office and the Pride Center
  • April 24 7pm in Port O’ Call.  Straight Acting: A story about queers and sports.  A documentary film that examines gay men who play contact sports, through one man’s journey out of the closet and onto the rugby pitch, the rodeo circuit and the hockey rink.  This event is sponsored by the Pride Center

Community Organizations

New Horizons (battered Women's shelter in La Crosse).  Volunteering here requires training.  See your instructor or call (608) 791-2600.

Salvation Army.  Serves meals, among other things. 223 8th St N.  Call (608) 782-6126 to volunteer.

Place of Grace Catholic Worker's House, 919 Hood St.  (608) 782-6224.  Serves meals, kids' activities.

WAFER Food Pantry, 782.6003.  Sort, weigh food, stock shelves, wait on customers.  Sometimes building maintenance.
