Welcome to the UW-La Crosse Center for Advancing Teaching & Learning homepage. The mission of CATL is to support the development of teaching and learning at UW-L. The purposes of this site are 1) to raise awareness of university-wide teaching improvement activities and events, 2) to provide a portal to teaching improvement resources, and 3) to invite faculty and staff to join ongoing conversations on teaching and learning.

Inclusive Excellence
The Teaching for Diversity Seminar focuses on a broad range of diversity issues. Each session includes discussion around a selected reading. Check the Seminar Schedule for dates and readings.

Writing & Learning
Opportunities are provided for instructors to learn strategies to help students improve both their writing skills and their ability to use writing as a tool of learning. Support is also provided for faculty involved or interested in Writing Emphasis and Writing-in-the-Major.

PROJECTS
The Lesson Study Project
Instructors work in small teams to jointly design, teach, study and refine class lessons. They develop learning goals, design instruction to address goals, observe and analyze student learning, and develop materials that can be used by other instructors.

The Teaching Portfolio Project
Instructors meet during the year to develop, discuss, evaluate and refine teaching portfolio materials. Each participant creates an evidence-based portfolio that documents teaching and student learning.
