The Center for Advancing Teaching & Learning (CATL) supports the improvement of teaching and student learning at UW-L. CATL offers opportunities for UW-L instructors to explore and improve their practice. In Spring 2014 these include: 


CATL staff members also consult with individual instructors and groups on a broad range of topics including:

  • writing measurable learning objectives
  • using active and group learning techniques
  • teaching online courses
  • integrating appropriate technology
  • strategies to improve student writing and learning
  • writing emphasis courses and writing-in-the-major programs
  • understanding student learning and student differences
  • integrating content and teaching practices that 
    promote success of all students
  • assessment
  • creating teaching portfolio material
  • the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • grants to support teaching improvement
