The Center for Advancing Teaching & Learning (CATL) supports the improvement of teaching and student learning at UW-L. CATL offers opportunities for UW-L instructors to explore and improve their practice. In 2011-2012 these include:
- Annual Conference on Teaching & Learning
- Lesson Study Project
- Online Instructor Training 1: Introduction to Online Learning
- Online Instructor Training 2: Course Revision
- Teaching for Diversity Seminar
CATL staff members also consult with individual instructors and groups on a broad range of topics including:
- writing measurable learning objectives
- using active and group learning techniques
- teaching online courses
- integrating appropriate technology
- strategies to improve student writing and learning
- writing emphasis courses and writing-in-the-major programs
- understanding student learning and student differences
- integrating content and teaching practices that promote success of all students
- assessment
- creating teaching portfolio material
- the scholarship of teaching and learning
- grants to support teaching improvement
