Each of the university's colleges and schools has needs that exceed funding provided by the state. Alumni support can range from unrestricted school- or college-based programs to specific departmental projects. These funds focus on scholarships, academic programs, technology upgrades, and support for student organizations.

Gifts to the College of Arts, Social Sciences, & Humanities will support:
- A college level speaker series on "Global Citizenship in the 21st Century"
- Newly formed School of Visual & Performing Arts
- Digitizing audio tapes in the Oral History Program
- Student travel to present scholarship and creative activity at regional and national conferences
- Scholarships for students studying in CASSH
Gifts to the College of Science & Health will support:
- Internships for undergraduate students in science, math and health professions
- Dean's Distinguished Fellowship Program
Gifts to the School of Education will support:
- Undergraduate research experiences for students
- Travel for students to attend summer Milwaukee and leadership training
- The Milwaukee Urban Experience and internship opportunities
- Teaching and learning
- Leadership training for junior faculty members
