Scholarships

The UWL Foundation has updated their scholarship application process so that it now takes place entirely online.

UWL-Foundation Scholarships

Undergraduate Research

English majors and minors conduct and share their original research in a variety of venues. Some receive competitive Undergraduate Research Grants to fund their activities, while others enroll in ENG 403 Individual Projects and work closely with a faculty advisor to produce research projects for course credit; still others revise work from their classes into public presentations. English students regularly present their research at the department's Senior Capstone Presentations, the UWL Celebration of Scholarship and Creativity, and the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.

International Study

We have several study abroad programs during the academic year and over the summer, including programs in France, England, and Ireland. For more information, including the application process, please visit the Office of International Education.

Internships

An internship provides valuable experience in a company or other organization related to your future career. Contact Karolyn Bald at UWL's Career Services office to learn about Handshake, the University's online resource for locating jobs and internships.

The Professional & Technical Writing Minor requires an internship (ENG 452: Professional & Technical Writing Practicum). Interns in the minor have interned at a variety of locations in the La Crosse community, on campus, and remotely.

English Club

The student-run English Club sponsors faculty-student cookouts, poetry readings and open mic nights, book drives and other volunteer activities, and infamous game nights. They also edit and publish a creative online publication, The Catalyst.

Contact the club at englishclub@uwlax.edu or check them out on Facebook.

International Honors Society

The English department sponsors a chapter of  Sigma Tau Delta, an International English Honor Society that anyone interested in English can join.  Chapter members enjoy fellowship with other English majors on campus and abroad, and have the opportunity to share their writing and knowledge through Society-sponsored conferences and academic publications.

For information on how to join, contact Chris McCracken (cmccracken@uwlax.edu).
