Brooch

Brooch This brooch or barrette with a copper backing features two birds standing on twigs, with one bird carrying what appears to be a worm in its mouth. The piece was recovered from a brick-lined feature in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. The brick structure might have been used by a nearby candle and soap company, and then as a dumping spot for trash in the 1870s to the early 1900s. The birds and twigs are in relief and appear to have broken off the front of the oval plate backing. This piece is slightly corroded and has two small obvious rust marks on the back where something broke off, possibly a pin. It measures 2 inches long by 1.5 inches high.
