Mound Maintenance

The Wisconsin Archeological Society has voted to adapt the draft Mound Maintenance Protocol written by the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Mound Maintenance Protocol Ad Hoc Committee (adapted from Ho-Chunk Nation guidelines for mound maintenance). This protocol deals with how to best preserve and protect Native American Mounds in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Archeological Society’s Preservation of Sites committee will be using this protocol when dealing with cleaning and preserving of mounds in Wisconsin. As of June 2006, this plan has been implemented by the Wisconsin Archeological Society at the Kingsley Bend Mound group in Columbia County, Wisconsin.
