In Situ

Institu Archaeologists use the term “in situ” to describe something found in place, with its context preserved. Context is the relationship artifacts have to each other and the situation in which they are found. This photo shows pottery, animal bone, and burnt rock found in situ at a late precontact Oneota site near La Crosse.
