Deer Bones – Bone Grease

Deer Bones Deer were a vital resource for Precontact peoples. They provided meat, fat, sinews, antler and bones for various tools, and hides for clothing and shelter. These deer bones were broken and cooked to produce bone grease. Fat was a valued resource, particularly during the long, cold winters. (Oneota, La Crosse County)
