Woodland Pottery – Sand Lake Archaeological District – Angelo

Woodland pottery This large Late Woodland, Lewis Phase, Angelo Punctated (A.D. 950-1200) rim section was recovered during the 2008 excavations at the Sand Lake Archaeological District, located north of La Crosse, Wisconsin.  The sherd is smoothed on the lip and has wider “trails”. The wider trail variation may represent the terminal period for this type, when interaction with Middle Mississippian groups was occurring.
