Quall Rockshelter – Clay Pipe

Clay pipe A grit-tempered clay pipe from the Woodland time period was recovered during UWL excavations in the early 1980s at the Quall site, a small rockshelter in the bluffs around La Crosse, Wisconsin. The pipe is very small, measuring only 2.1 cm in height, 2.9 cm in length (including the remaining portion of the stem), and 1.9 cm across the bowl. The surface of the pipe is smooth, with parallel rows of linear stamped designs. A stamped design is also present on the lip of the bowl.
