Sand Lake Archaeological District – Woodland Pottery – Madison Plain

Woodland pottery This feature was excavated in 2008 at the Sand Lake Archaeological District near Onalaska, Wisconsin. The feature consisted of the base and collapsed rim of a crushed Woodland vessel. A light colored oval (80 x 60 cm) stain was associated with the pottery. The stain was not well defined and was only 15 cm deep. The Woodland vessel appeared to have been crushed by heavy equipment removing the topsoil. The vessel is Madison Plain and represents a Late Woodland component. Little else was found in the feature.
