Sanford Archaeological District – Anomalous Globular Vessel

Oneota pottery - photo and drawing This globular vessel, recovered during excavations in the early 2000s at the Sanford Archaeological District in La Crosse, Wisconsin, does not conform to typical Oneota phase attributes.  The shoulder has two parallel, arching tool trails filled in with small punctates, with longer slashing punctates below. The punctates on the interior of the arch are typically arranged in diagonal rows of three small punctates, or in an X shape, like the five on a die.
