Sanford Archaeological District – Non-Globular Vessel 46

Oneota pottery This unusual sherd was found in the early 2000s in the Sanford Archaeological District in La Crosse, Wisconsin. It is a non-globular vessel that is atypical for Oneota ceramics in the La Crosse area. The vessel is straight-sided and 7 cm (2¾ inches) in diameter, and has tool notches on the interior of the rim and two blocks of tool trails that come together at the lip. The portion remaining has five oblique trails to the right and at least three to the left. The tool trails are deep sharply defined. To the right of the tool trails is a tiny loop handle attached at the lip.
