2023 Jennifer and Mike Hansen CBA Excellence in Research Recipient - Nabamita Dutta

2023 Jennifer and Mike Hansen CBA Excellence in Research Recipient - Nabamita Dutta

Nabamita Dutta is a Professor of Economics  and the Co-director of the Menard Family Initiative at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. To date, she has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles, being cited over 2000 times (based on Google Scholar). Her main research interests hinge at the intersection of new institutional economics and economic development with emphasis on entrepreneurship, political economy, and economics of gender. Her articles have appeared in esteemed journals like the European Journal of Political Economy, Kyklos, Small Business Economics, British Journal of Management, and Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society among others. She has been the Associate Editor of Economic Modeling since January 2020 and on the editorial board of Economies since 2018.  She mainly teaches classes on International Economics, and Economic Development. Dr. Dutta has been invited to deliver talks and be a visiting research scholar across the world by institutes like IFN (Research in Industrial Organization), Stockholm, United Nations University (UNU WIDER), Helsinki, Finland, seminars organized by IHS (Institute of Humane Studies), IOEA (Institutional and Organizational Economics Academy), and University of Lincoln, UK.  

Nabamita Dutta is originally from Kolkata, India and moved to this country in 2004 to do her Ph.D. in economics. She graduated from West Virginia University and moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin to start as an Assistant Professor in 2009.

Jennifer and Mike Hansen CBA 2023 Excellence in Teaching Award Recipient - Julie Ancius

Professor Julie Ancius is a dedicated professional with a wealth of experience in the fields of taxation and financial accounting. She has been an integral part of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) community since 2012.

Julie's journey in academia followed a successful career in industry, where she held the position of Director of Taxation and Finance at Reinhart FoodServices before joining UWL. Her primary focus in industry was taxation, and she accumulated valuable experience working in public accounting and for multiple insurance companies, specializing in tax functions.

At UWL, Julie brings her extensive real-world experience to the classroom, where she teaches courses in financial accounting and taxation. Her commitment to education extends beyond the lecture hall as she actively engages with students during internships, providing them with practical insights and mentorship. 

Julie holds a Masters of Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor's degree from Mankato State. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and possesses the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation, underscoring her commitment to professional excellence.

With a career marked by a passion for taxation, financial acumen, and a dedication to shaping the next generation of professionals, Professor Julie Ancius continues to make a significant impact in both the academic and business realms.

2023 Jennifer and Mike Hansen CBA Excellence in Service Award Recipient - Stacy Trisler

2023 Jennifer and Mike Hansen CBA Excellence in Service Award Recipient - Stacy Trisler

Stacy Trisler joined the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2015, less than a week before the start of the semester and was able to hit the road running to teach Professional Selling and Principles of Marketing. She began working immediately with her predecessor to coach students for the Great Northwoods Sales Warmup in October. 

Since then, Stacy has taken over and expanded the sales program at UWL. She converted the internal sales competition to a sponsorship program, building that sponsorship dollars to over $10,000 a year and expanding student participation.  She expanded the number of sales competitions for students from one national event to three and has since enabled many more students to compete nationally and even internationally. She helped develop and advised the newly formed student organization, The Eagle Sales Club in 2019 and continues to be the faculty advisor for this group.

Stacy completed the Master Advisor program and, for two years, advised all marketing freshmen and sophomores before the addition of professional advisors to the CBA. She currently serves on the Textbook Rental Advisory Committee and the Navigate Academic Department Advisory Team.

2023 Jennifer and Mike Hansen CBA Dean’s Impact Award Recipient– Christa Kiersch

Christa Kiersch, PhD, specializes in the ‘people side of business’. As a professor in the Management Department since 2012, her approach to teaching is based on facilitating, coaching and empowering students through engaging learning experiences. This approach has been fundamental in her creation of multiple community-engaged learning experiences for students and her involvement with the Kwik Trip CBA Integrated Core Program and the Global Consulting Study Abroad Program. In sum, she has engaged over 400 students with 30 different partnering organizations through applied course projects.

Dr. Kiersch is an active scholar of leadership development and employee experience with 6 published academic journal articles since 2020 in addition to a strong stream of professional reports and news briefs through which she shares her research findings more directly with practitioners.

Dr. Kiersch also applies her professional expertise to service in various leadership capacities at UWL and within the surrounding community, including leading the UWL Employee Engagement initiative, serving on Faculty Senate and the Senate Executive Committee, supporting student leadership development initiatives, and creating organizational learning and development workshops for nonprofits in the La Crosse region.
