What's new Wednesday

What’s new Wednesdays – April 17, 2024

What a long, strange trip it’s been: The rebirth of psychedelic-assisted therapies

Join us for What's New Wednesdays to talk about psychedelics with UWL Psychology Professor Ryan McKelley.

For many, “psychedelics” brings up a wide range of negative stereotypes and fears that emerged in the U.S. in the 1960s, and yet recent news headlines suggest some might show promise as emerging treatments in mental health. Join us to learn about the long and (bizarre) history of the potential of psychedelics in treating mental health disorders until it came to a screeching halt in the 1970s. We’ll explore how they might work, which disorders are under study, and details about the first FDA approved use of MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD.

The program is free to attend.
