Concert Choir & Treble Chorus

Res Miranda

The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Department of Music invites the community to Res Miranda, its annual holiday choral concert, on Wednesday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Christ Episcopal Church. This year’s program brings together the UWL Concert Choir, conducted by Dr. Christopher M. Hathaway, and the UWL Treble Chorus, led by Dr. Kourtney R. Austin, for an evening of works that illuminate both the contemplative and celebratory sides of the season.

The concert opens with the Concert Choir, offering selections ranging from Josquin des Prez’s Ave Maria…Virgo Serena to Jake Runestad’s radiant Alleluia, and Stephen Schwartz’s inspiring We Are Lights. Later in the program, the ensemble returns with stirring contemporary works, including Arvo Pärt’s Bogoróditse Djévo, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi’s Ave Maria, and Sydney Guillaume’s Dominus Vobiscum.

The Treble Chorus presents a vibrant and varied program showcasing the expressive range of treble voices. Highlights include selections from Benjamin Britten’s iconic Ceremony of CarolsProcession, Wolcum Yole!, There Is No Rose, The Little Babe, and Deo Gracias. The ensemble also offers a striking arrangement of Dvořák’s Largo from the New World Symphony (arr. Margaret Dryburgh; ed. Norah Chambers), alongside seasonal favorites Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! and Ken Darby’s charming musical setting of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas.

The evening concludes with the combined choirs performing Donald Fraser’s beloved This Christmastide, an uplift of warmth and welcome during the winter season.

The concert is free and open to the public.
