Constitution Day 2026

Protecting the Rule of Law, Judicial Independence, and Civility

Join Viterbo University, UW-La Crosse, and Western Technical College for a collaborative Constitution Day program featuring retired federal judges Deanell Reece Tacha and Beverly B. Martin.

The conversation will explore the role of the judiciary in American constitutional democracy, including judicial independence, the rule of law, the separation of powers, civility, and public confidence in our institutions.

Judge Tacha served for 25 years on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit after her appointment by President Ronald Reagan, including six years as Chief Judge. Judge Martin served for more than 20 years on the federal bench following appointments by Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, including service on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

The program will be moderated by Rusty Cunningham, former publisher and executive editor of the La Crosse Tribune.

This event is presented through the La Crosse Tri-Campus Collaborative with support from LeaderEthics.
