A message from Chancellor James M. Beeby

Sent to all UWL students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends

Dear UW-La Crosse campus community – students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university,

It is with both gratitude and excitement that I send you my first greeting from the chancellor's office in historic Graff Main Hall, and as a new, proud community member of La Crosse.

This is an exceptional university, and I am honored to be here. Since March, I have learned much about the rich history of UWL and its culture of excellence. And there is much more to learn.

I want to start by sharing my deepest appreciation for the leadership of Interim Chancellor Betsy Morgan. Dr. Morgan's stewardship of this institution and her unwavering belief in the people of UWL and the surrounding community have been a model of leadership and commitment. Please join with me in thanking her for her service as interim chancellor and for her continued dedication as she returns to her role as provost and vice chancellor of Academic Affairs.

In my first few months as chancellor, my focus will be on building relationships, listening, and learning. I will look to all of you for guidance as I work to understand our greatest strengths as well as our most important opportunities. I sincerely hope that many of you will help me with that process.

I am very much looking forward to working together to build a shared vision for this next chapter at UWL.

Thank you for the warm UWL welcome,

James M. Beeby, PhD, FRHistS
Chancellor, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
