Ever since Gail Williamson’s son Blair, who has Down syndrome, was cast in a national commercial her perception of the media has evolved. By using the media to positively affect society’s perception of those with development disorders, she has opened the door for many by helping them find work in the entertainment industry by casting talent for shows like “Glee”,” ER” and “Scrubs.” Through her work and speaking events, Williamson hopes to convey the current climate and attitude toward those with Down syndrome and other development disabilities.
Williamson will share her story during a presentation at UW-La Crosse at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. The event is free and open to the public. The program is part of the university’s Campus Activities Board series.
Williamson will give a free talk that night with information geared to parents and community members at 7 p.m. in Radison Hotel. She is the keynote speaker at the Step UP for Down Syndrome Saturday, Oct. 6, in La Crosse's at Riverside Park.
