The UW-L Alumni Association held a corporate event at Direct Supply in March. The event is just the beginning many more corporate events to come.

For more than 10 years, Direct Supply has visited UW-La Crosse. Their staff members have attended career fairs, joined campus career preparation events and ultimately recruited a lot of UW-L graduates.
To thank the company for its recruitment efforts and reconnect with alumni who now work at the company, the UW-La Crosse Alumni Association visited Direct Supply in March.
The Alumni Association held an alumni lunch March 26 at the Milwaulkee-based company that employs 45 UW-L graduates. The event is just the beginning many more corporate events to come.
“It’s a great way for us to engage our alumni by going to them rather than expecting them to attend an event we plan at an off-site location,” explains Keli Frigo, assistant director of the Alumni Association.
Frigo says the Alumni Association aims to hold an alumni event at a company once each semester. With help from UW-L Career Services, the Alumni Association has identified other companies that employ high numbers of alumni that it would like to work with in the future. The Alumni Association held a similar event last April at Epic in Madison.

“Our goal is to keep our alumni informed as to what is happening on campus and how they can continue to stay engaged by volunteering, continuing to recruit students and/or making a financial contribution,” says Frigo.
Direct Supply, a company that helps build, equip and run better Senior Living communities, actively recruits UW-L graduates and interns for position in sales, marketing, customer service, operations, supply chain and IT. The reason Direct Supply recruits so many graduates from UW-L is that they are well prepared academically and socially, says Ashley Bode, an HR business partner for Direct Supply.
“Direct Supply is a growing and innovative company,” says Tim Tritch, interim director of UW-L Career Services. “The fact that they seek out our graduates reflects the quality of our students.”
Bode, who graduated from UW-L in 2007, was a summer sales intern for the company before she was hired full time. The company attracted her because it is employee-owned, committed to growing and developing employees and is focused on senior living, an area that is anticipated to have strong future demand. “I love knowing I work for a growing company that has a mission I support and is committed to taking care of our people,” she says.
Tritch says he appreciates the commitment from the Alumni Association to reach out to employers of UW-L graduates. It makes the relationship between university and the employer even stronger. And it demonstrates the strong relationship UW-L has with students after they leave.
“That’s another indication to employers that this is a place they want to recruit,” says Tritch.
