American Red Cross seeks blood donations

Posted 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011

The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive now through Thursday at Valhalla, Cartwright Center – Gunning Addition. Donate blood anytime from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. “The demand is up and we are trying to keep up,” says Scott Friell, donor recruitment representative for the American Red Cross. Blood donations meet local hospital needs first and are then shipped statewide and nationally, he says. The American Red Cross supplies blood to 45 percent of the nation’s hospitals, meeting the needs of people undergoing surgery, cancer patients and others. The goal is to collect 140 units Tuesday, 125 units Wednesday and 110 units on Thursday, says Friell.
