Business owner, full-time farmer to discuss sustainable agriculture

Jack Hedin, a full-time organic farmer and Yale University graduate, will share his understanding of sustainability and how it affects daily operations at his farm during a presentation at UW-L. Hedin will present "The Pursuit of Real Sustainability on One Southeastern Minnesota Farm: Daily Practice and the Big Picture" at 7 p.m. Monday, April 18, at Port O' Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Hedin owns the community-supported agriculture farm, Featherstone Farm, in Rushford, Minn., where he has put sustainable agriculture into practice since founding the farm with his wife Jennifer McHugh in 1994. Hedin will discuss what parameters should be considered in sustainable farming such as soil management, energy sourcing, livestock management, carbon emissions and more.
