Participants are needed for a UW-L physical activity research study of those 55 and older who have been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. Nancy Richeson, associate professor in the College of Science and Health Department of Recreation Management and Therapeutic Recreation, is conducting the research. It will examine the feasibility of using the FitBit Zip™ and Accusplit Eagle AE 120 XL pedometer on daily physical activity for older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The participants will take part in a two-week program in August to test the feasibility of the two devices on predicted cost, usability and interest. The program will consist of pre- and post-test data collection, including the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire, plus the Mini Mental Status Exam, Demographic Questionnaire and follow-up interview. A one-on-one counseling session will be followed by two weeks of monitoring usage. Participants will receive more information about physical activity and skills, motivation to take part in physical activity, and incentive for increasing daily activity. Participants will be able to keep the device they are using. No monetary compensation will be given. For more information about the project and to enroll, contact Richeson at 608.785.8205, or nricheson@uwlax.edu, or visit http://www.uwlax.edu/profile/nricheson/.Retirement open house June 18
