Mayoral debate set at UW-L for March 25

UW-L women finish third; relay captures national title

Carius Track at North Central College. The Eagles finished with 27.0 team points while UW-Oshkosh won the title with 56. Illinois College was second with 32 and Wartburg fourth with 25. Read more »

The UW-L Bookstore now has NCAA Track and Field national championship T-shirts for sale. Purchase a T-shirt for $22 at the Bookstore in Cartwright Center or online at uwl.bkstr.com.

 Open forum for classified staff set for March 26

There will be an open forum for classified staff  at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in Port O' Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Chancellor Joe Gow, Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Bob Hetzel, Provost Heidi Macpherson and Dean of Students Paula Knudson will be available to discuss and answer questions regarding the Discretionary Merit Compensation process, as well as others issues.

Kinesis Dance Theatre to perform March 27 and 28

UW-L's Kinesis Dance Theatre will present their annual concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, with a repeat performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Kinesis presents jazz and modern choreography by Artistic Director and UW-L Dance Instructor Kathy Gorman. Student choreography will also be presented. A special performance by UW-L student, hip hop singer and composer Jason Kurt will also be presented. Tickets will be sold at the door only and are $4 for students and $6 for others. Nominate an academic staff member for UW-L Academic Staff Excellence Award

For nearly 20 years, the Academic Staff Council has recognized a non-instructional academic staff member who excels in his or her work at UW-L and contributes to the La Crosse area. Nominations are accepted from any UW-L faculty, staff or student. To nominate someone for the 2013 Academic Staff Excellence Award, click here. Nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, March 29. Chancellor Joe Gow will announce the recipient at the fall 2013 Chancellor’s Address. For more information about the Excellence Award nomination process, visit the Academic Staff Council website.

Heating plant shutdown slated for May 18-26

Mark your calendars for the heating plant shutdown dates for scheduled maintenance and repairs. The heating plant will be off line starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, until 10 p.m. Sunday, May 26. During the shutdown there will be no steam distribution services available to any campus buildings. Subsequently, cage washers, autoclaves and other steam supplied equipment will be affected.  Plan accordingly in anticipation of this maintenance event. Predicting oral cancer risk and treatment results is topic of March 21 bioresearch forum

Doctor Lurdes Queimado, Presbyterian Health Foundation chair in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, is the keynote speaker for the March La Crosse BioResearch Forum. He will present “A Novel Assay to Predict Oral Cancer Risk and Treatment Efficacy” from 12:15- 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Overholt Auditorium at Gundersen Lutheran. The free forums are open to the public and are hosted by the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation. Those attending should park in the Green ramp (see map) or use valet parking. Use the entrances at the north end and northeast side of the medical center.

Murphy Library has a wealth of resources relevant to women's studies and other disciplines in which women's issues are explored. These resources are compiled in two subject guides:
  • The  Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies subject guide, which includes links to  databases, articles, primary resources, books, websites and more.
  • The Women's History Month guide, which includes targeted resources such as ProQuest's profile of women involved in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and streaming videos such as "Mrs. President: Women and Political Leadership in Iran."
These resources are available at the library year round, but during Women's History Month, they are featured on the library home page.
