Tickets for ‘All in the Timing’ theatre production on sale Nov. 5
UW-L’s Department of Theatre Art’s newest production, “All in the Timing,” is a hilarious blend of eight one-act scenes that humorously capture the essence of being “in the right moment at the wrong time.” The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, and runs through Saturday, Nov. 10, with a matinee performance scheduled for 2 o’clock Sunday, Nov. 11. Chinese students celebrate Halloween
- A Chinese Students and Scholars Association Halloween Party was held Oct. 27 in Port O' Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Halloween is not a typical Chinese holiday. Young people have only recently started to celebrate it like those in the U.S., says Chinese student Jianfei (Mark) Fei. This was the second CSSA Halloween party. About 70 people attended and played games such as "Draw something," as well as wearing costumes and staging a drama, singing and dance performance. 'Lend a Vein After the Campaign! Blood Drive' set for Nov. 7 and 8

Programs challenge rethinking of Thanksgiving
A series of programs in La Crosse challenges the rethinking of the Thanksgiving holiday. The programs, sponsored by the Widening The Circle Education Symposium, include:
• Rethinking Thanksgiving Dinner - 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8. Gregory Cajete, director of Native American Studies at the University of New Mexico, will speak on the “Ecology of Indigenous Education.”
• Traditional Foods Dinner - 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. Patty Loew, UW-Madison, will speak on “How Indigenous People use the media to form identity, reconstruct the past, and assert sovereignty and treaty rights.”
• Dinner - 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Tou Saiko Lee, a Hmong hip hop and social justice artist, and Tall Paul, an Ojibwe hip hop artist, will perform.
All events are free and held in the Hmong Cultural and Community Center, 1815 Ward Ave., La Crosse.

UW-L Spanish students to hold food drive through Nov. 21
UW-L students studying Spanish are hosting a food drive for the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse through Wednesday, Nov. 21. The Task Force needs pasta, canned fruits, canned meats and soup, as well as hygiene products and pet food.
Drop off donations in 315 Graff Main Hall.
Cook-IE Off! fundraiser set for Nov. 8, purchase tickets now
Help raise scholarship dollars for UW-L non-traditional female students at the second annual Cook-IE Off! fundraiser from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Hall of Nations, Centennial Hall.
The Organization for Campus Women/Wisconsin Women in Higher Education and Leadership is hosting the event to raise scholarship dollars for non-traditional female students age 25 or older.
Purchase a $5 ticket to sample and vote for a favorite cookie and to enter to win door prizes. Purchase tickets in advance from this year’s team leaders: Joy Gutknecht, Human Resources; Betsy Knowles, Economics; Paula Knudson, Student Affairs; Shelly Lesher, Physics; Kate Oganowski, Upward Bound; Karla Stanek, Career Services and Academic Advising; and Barbara Stewart, Campus Climate & Diversity.
Only 100 tickets will be sold.
The winner will receive the coveted “Golden Spatula” to display in her office.
Discovery is featured band at Nov. 9 Album Encounters; public program ‘Cosmic Colors’ set for Saturdays throughout November
The Album Encounters multimedia light and laser show features Discovery's ”L P” at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in 20 Cowley Hall. Admission is $4. The Planetarium’s Public November program is “Cosmic Colors.” It will be presented at 1 p.m. Saturdays Nov. 10, 17 and 24. Monthly public programs are planned for November, December, February, March and April. Admission is $2 for students and children and $4 for others. Stay active with YMCA's Winter Walk Run series
Stay active this winter by participating in the YMCA's Winter Walk Run Series.
The YMCA Winter Walk Run Series is composed of three Saturday events: the Jingle Bell on Dec. 1, the New Year's Resolution on Jan. 5, 2013, and the Valentine's Heart Throb on Feb. 9, 2013.
Each race includes a five-mile run or a 5k route for runners and walkers. Participants can sign up for all three events for $36 or for each individual event for $18.
Races begin at 8 a.m. at the the YMCA in Onalaska and follow the same course so participants can work to improve their time and set a personal best.
Prizes are awarded to finishers who improve their time over the three months.

Gerig, from the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Viterbo University, will present “Scatterer Size Imaging Via Medical Ultrasound” from 12:15-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, for the monthly La Crosse BioResearch Forum. Forums are held in the Overholt Auditorium, Gundersen Lutheran. The free forums are open to the public and are hosted by the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation. Those attending should park in the Green ramp (see map) or use valet parking. Use the entrances at the north end and northeast side of the medical center.
