Eagle Hall grand opening ceremony held Oct. 14

Student involvement was important in the construction of Eagle Hall said UW-L Student Senate President Jason Krug at the hall's Grand Opening Ceremony Oct. 14. Eagle Hall was built after students requested more on-campus living following a housing crunch partially due to two residence halls being demolished for the university’s new academic building. The 500-bed hall offers an alternative living arrangement for occupants: sleeping rooms surrounding a gathering area and breakfast nook with a sink and microwave. Construction of the $39 million project began in February 2010. No state funds were used to pay for the construction; the building and its operation are entirely funded by fees students pay to live in residence halls. The building is expected to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver rating. Some of its green features are: use of natural lighting, white rooftops to reduce the “heat island” effect, rain gardens, energy-recovery HVAC, low irrigation vegetation and bicycle parking.

Campus Climate Office introduces Civility Form

What is civility? At its most basic level, civility refers to showing others kindness, courtesy and respect. Digging a little deeper, civility is about constantly being open to listen, learn, teach and change. It seeks common ground as a beginning point for dialogue when differences occur, while at the same time recognizing that differences enrich our campus. What is the Civility Form? The Civility Form is a confidential form provided for students, faculty and staff to share experiences with civil or uncivil behavior. The data gathered will be used to track trends related to UW-L's campus climate. Access the form here. You can also find it on the Campus Climate home page by going to the “Hate/Hostility Response” tab under “Initiatives.” ) When you experience civil or uncivil behavior, we want to hear from you. We hope you will take a few minutes to complete the Civility Form when you experience, witness or even hear about an act of kindness, those lending a helping hand, or those who go out of their way to benefit those around them. Conversely, we want to hear about actions that negatively affect the campus community as well. Human Resources artwork.
