David Gilmour's 'Rattle That Lock' to be featured at the Oct. 9 Album Encounters; ‘The Explorers' is the October Public Program
The next Album Encounters multimedia light and laser show will feature David Gilmour's "Rattle That Lock" at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in 20 Cowley Hall. Admission is $5. The Planetarium’s Public Program for October is "The Explorers." The talk on the current evening sky, followed by a multimedia audiovisual presentation, will be at 1 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31. Whitney George, Mathematics, presented the talk “Visualizing Calculus: From Epsilon-Delta to Solids of Revolution” at the inaugural 2015 Conference on Research and Innovation in Teaching Mathematics with Technology, July 20-21 in La Crosse. Whitney George and Nathan Warnberg, both Mathematics, attended the National Association of Math Circles inaugural Workshop in Denver, Sept. 10-12. George and Warnberg also volunteered for the Julia Robinson Math Festival (with 350 5th-8th graders from Colorado) Sept. 11. Christine Hippert, Archaeology and Anthropology, presented "'But I’m Not A Racist!' Friction, Global Interconnections, and Everyday Dominican-Haitian Interpersonal Relations in the Dominican Republic," at the annual meetings of the North Central Council of Latin Americanists at Carroll University, Waukesha, Sept. 26. Edward D. Kim, Mathematics, co-authored the article "Combinatorics and geometry of transportation polytopes: An update" in Contemporary Mathematics (volume on Discrete Geometry and Algebraic Combinatorics), volume 625, pages 37-76, August 2014. Víctor M. Macías-González, History, presented an assessment of historical studies of masculinity at the Mexican Academy for the Gendered Study of Men (AMEGH, AC) conference, Sept. 23-25.

Flexible Spending Account informational sessions
The IRS allows participants to contribute to flexible spending accounts or FSA through payroll deductions taken out on a pre-tax basis. The money is deducted from your pay before federal and state income taxes and Social Security have been withheld, resulting in lowered taxable income and a reduction in taxes. There are two types of FSAs – one is for health care-related expenses and the other is for dependent care-related expenses.
