Gow was one of the five chancellors and presidents highlighted in "Lessons in Lively Leadership," a four-page feature on university leaders engaging with students in the 21st century. The leaders were noted for being those "who take student engagement very seriously — and aren't afraid to let their true personalities show." Gow was recognized for his videotaped flight with the Blue Angels last summer, along with his numerous guitar and singing performances. And, the feature noted his focus on interaction with students. "One of the things that inspired Selfie of Joe Gow infront of commencement audience.me to be a campus leader is that I watched some other people do it, and they weren't very approachable or relatable, and I thought I would be more down to earth, so to speak. I've had the good luck of actually being able to do that," he said. Gow told the magazine's reporter his favorite part of the job is commencement when he shakes all of the graduates' hands. And, the piece mentioned last year's selfie at commencement that was a big hit. See the whole article in the Winter 2015 issue at: www.aascu.org/MAP/PublicPurpose/2015/Winter/LivelyLeadership.pdf.
