A Distinguished Lecture Series in Computer Science on Monday, Oct. 24 at UW-L will feature Harvard University Professor Leslie Valiant. He will give a keynote presentation, “Biological Evolution as a form of Learning” at 5 p.m. at the Cleary Alumni & Friends Center.

Valiant will present “Do parallel algorithms and programs need to be parameter aware?” during a symposium at 11 a.m., at the Cleary Alumni & Friends Center, UW-L.
He will give a keynote presentation, “Biological Evolution as a form of Learning” at 5 p.m. at the Cleary Alumni & Friends Center. This lecture will explore what concepts from Darwin’s evolution theory mean for computation.
Valiant is the T. Jefferson Coolidge Professor of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at Harvard University and the recipient of the 2010 Association for Computing Machinery A.M. Turing Award.
UW-L’s Distinguished Lecture Series in Computer Science is funded by private gifts to the UW-La Crosse Foundation Inc. and through support from the Department of Computer Science and the College of Science and Health. The series aims to bring a computer scientist to La Crosse each year whose significant accomplishments and communication skills can inspire and enrich the careers of students and faculty and the computer community in general.
