Biology Department members Scott Cooper and Kurt Grunwald constructed 50 tug boats that pull wooden barges, which students in Cooper’s biology lab painted bright colors. The barges were filled with toys donated by UW-L faculty and staff. Biology Faculty Member Renee Redman wrapped the gifts to deliver to area families in time for Christmas. Others will go to Campus Child Center as well as relatives. Cooper and Grunwald have constructed toys to donate at Christmas time for more than 15 years. “Kids seem to like handmade wooden toys, and there are a lot of children in need in the area,” he says. Students who helped with the boats include: Sarah Mortimer, Catherine Drus, Emily Kelm, Jenna Kerr, Tyler Legro, Brittany Lehrer, Shawn Sell and Luke Nelson.
