Carl Wimberly celebrated his 90th birthday at UW-L on June 27 with the help of former colleagues, family and friends. Here he is pictured at the party with his former secretary Donna Mae Phillips.
Wimberly served at UW-L for 40 years as a professor, dean and vice chancellor. He joined UW-L as an instructor of political science in 1953. Along with teaching, he held numerous administrative positions, including director and later dean of the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences, before being appointed vice chancellor in 1973. He served as acting chancellor following Kenneth Lindner’s resignation in 1978 until Noel Richards’ appointment in 1979. Wimberly retired as vice chancellor in 1992.
He was recognized by renaming North Hall in his honor in June 2000.
The birthday celebration was hosted by his family, the UW-L Alumni Association and the UW-L Foundation.
