From the dean: Investing in the next generation of educators

Posted 7:57 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2026

School of Education Dean Marcie Wycoff-Horn introuces the spring 2026 issue of the Eagle EDge.

New issue explores how UWL is shaping the future of teaching and learning

The spring issue of the Eagle EDge is typically released at one of my favorite times of the year. Faculty members are finishing up their classes, students are holding strong to complete their field experiences, and staff are busy working on accreditation and programming for the upcoming year. The Eagle Excellence Scholarship and Awards Program is right around the corner, where we are fortunate to honor and celebrate leaders in education as well as aspiring educators.

It’s a time to stop and smell the flowers, literally and metaphorically. In education, spring is when we can look back at all our hard work and begin to think about where to invest our efforts as we move forward.

That’s what this issue is all about: investing in the future of our educators, the field of education, and our local community. When I say investing, I’m of course speaking of actual dollars, and the generosity of donors who make this possible. But I’m also talking about investing time and effort. In my opinion, there’s no greater place to invest than in our students.

In this issue, you'll read about the many ways we are investing in the next generation: Strengthening our programs to better serve schools. Sending students to present at a national conference. Supporting math students as they student teach in France. And working with our generous donors to provide transformational learning experiences.

I hope you enjoy these stories, and as always, contact us with any thoughts or questions.

With our future in mind,

Marcie Wycoff-Horn
