The Rodriguez Brothers, nominated for a Grammy for Best Latin Jazz, are coming to the UW-La Crosse Jazz Program’s 2nd annual Jazz Residency
Oct. 20–25.
The Rodriguez Brothers — trumpeter Michael Rodriguez and pianist Robert Rodriguez — will present their kinetic, masterfully rendered concept of Latin Jazz, incorporating traditional and modern Afro Cuban, Brazilian, bolero and hardcore jazz flavors.
The brothers, in their mid-30s, are virtuoso storytellers on their respective instruments, as are their group bandmates Carlos Henriques, (the bassist with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra since the early ‘00s after several years with Gonzalo Rubalcaba), and Puerto Rico–born drummer Henry Cole.
While at UWL, The Rodriguez Brothers Quartet will present master classes, work with students in rehearsals and teach improvisation workshops. Several events are open to the public including a presentation on Modern Latin Jazz concepts "Finding Balance Between Latin and Jazz," the quartet in concert, a jam session and concluding concert with the UWL Jazz Bands.
