An Asian American transgender slam poet shares his life through performance and workshop.
An Asian American transgender slam poet will be speaking at UW-La Crosse. Kit Yan will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Brian and Lori Hesprich Auditorium, Graff Main Hall.
Yan is a slam poet, storyteller and comedian. He performs theatrical slam poetry pieces about his life as a transgender through stories about family, love and social justice. He also discusses topics of race and gender. Yan is an award-winning artist who has been on TV programs such as HBO’s “Asian Aloud” and PBS’ “Asian America.”
Yan will also hold a workshop for all interested in learning how to explore their story through spoken work. The workshop runs from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in the Hall of Nations, Centennial Hall.
