Making films on U.S.-Mexico Border wraps up Hispanic Heritage month lecture series

Presentation “Making Films on the U.S.– Mexico Border” wraps up Hispanic Heritage Month lecture series.

UW-L observed National Hispanic Heritage month from Sept. 15 through Oct.15 with a Hispanic Heritage Month lecture series. The film of Maru Buendía-Sentiés, a U.S.-Mexico Borderlands filmmaker, wraps up the series with “Making Films on the U.S.– Mexico Border” at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, in 260 Graff Main Hall, UW-L. Buendía-Sentiés' work focuses on human rights and immigration. Her award-winning films have been featured in film festivals in Europe and the Americas. Her short film “Bienvenido” (2010) portrays the struggle of a Mexican immigrant to overcome stereotypes. Her 2009 award-winning “Entre Líneas” is a story about two friends who live on different sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Buendia’s presentation will include the screening of the two films and discussion.
