UW-L music students will benefit from the La Crosse Symphony's Conductor Wannabe contest. Ilene Kernozek, vice chair of the UW-L Foundation, won first place in the contest. The LSO revised its popular fund-raising event so each contestant designated a non-profit to receive half of the proceeds from funds they collected. Kernozek collected $14,754 in donations — half of which will go to UW-La Crosse Foundation Music Student Scholarships, the non-profit charity she designated. Her slogan was “Music Students Are a Sound Investment.”
The seven contestants brought in a total of $46,686 for the LSO and their non-profits. Kernozek and the second place winner, Joe Kruse (Mayo Clinic Health System), will conduct selections at the LSO concert May 2.
